BONUS---Recording and Annotating Video
As you progress through the Impact Intern teaching program you will find it necessary to record and annotate video, as part of your assignment completion process. We didn't want you to go away empty handed with this regard.
While you can choose any method you would like to record and edit these videos, we've provided an example below to help you get started with the video creation and sharing process.
We would suggest that you keep the process as simple as possible. Most of you probably already have a smartphone and a Google account. With these two pieces, you can record video with your phone and upload directly to Youtube, and annotate it along the way.
Recording and Uploading
- Sign into your Google account. If you do not wish to use your personal or School Google account you can create a new one just for the Impact program.
- Visit Youtube (Links to an external site.) and make sure you are logged in there - this should occur automatically if you are already logged into Google. Click on the avatar in the top right corner of the page and select Creator Studio. If this is the first time you have gone to the Creator Studio, you will be prompted to create a personal Youtube Channel.
- Once at the Creator Studio, locate Channel from the left side menu, and select Upload Defaults.
- Change the Upload Defaults - Privacy Setting to Unlisted. This will hide your videos from the general public. Only those that you share the link with will be able to view your videos. The Impact Intern program will likely require this level of privacy for your content.
- Open the Youtube app on your mobile phone.
- At the top right side of the app you will find your avatar. Tap it to make sure you are signed in with the account you intend to use.
- Tap the Camera Icon to start a recording. You might have to give permission for your device to leverage your camera and microphone - please do so.
- Record your video.
- When finished recording, you will be prompted to add details to the video (Title, Description, Privacy, etc.)
- Tap the blue arrow icon at the top of the recording to upload the video to your Youtube Channel.
- You have successfully recorded and uploaded a video to Youtube.
Annotating your Video
- Visit VideoAnt, provided by the University of Minnesota https://ant.umn.edu/welcome (Links to an external site.)
- Sign in with the Google account you used to record your video. You will have to accept some permissions
- Watch the tutorial video below to help get you started.
