Enrollment options

Each Multiple Subject or Education Specialist Intern Program must include a minimum of 120 clock hour (or the semester or quarter unit equivalent) pre-service component which includes:


  1. General and Foundational Pedagogy including classroom management and planning,

  2. Reading/Language Arts,

  3. Subject-Specific Pedagogy,

  4. Human Development, and

  5. Specific content regarding the teaching of English Learners


This course is part of a series of pre-service courses offered by Merced County Office of Education Intern Programs, fulfilling the required 120 clock-hours (or equivalent) of pre-service training. This course provides an introduction to typical and atypical human development spanning conception through adolescence. The course covers theories of development and the scientific study of human development, and genetic, environmental, and biosocial contributions on developmental growth. Students will learn about the developmental trajectories of thinking and understanding in each domain, including cognition, language, and socio-emotional development within the cultural context, with a special emphasis on the role of play in children’s development.
