Candidates will study the development of language and literacy in older children and adolescents and explore effective, standards-aligned instructional strategies for reading, writing, listening, and speaking across these content areas. Emphasis is placed on integrating literacy and content instruction, supporting English Learners through comprehensive ELD (integrated and designated), leveraging student assets, and understanding reading difficulties, including dyslexia, within a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). Instruction is grounded in the CA ELA Standards, CA ELD Standards, CA Social Science Framework, and CA Dyslexia Guidelines.
